Interesting thanks. A handful of points to consider:

The 2017 Global Burden of Disease Study - the largest of its type - reports that low fruit intake is responsible for an estimated 2 million deaths a year, along with 65 million disability adjusted life years (https://doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(19)30041-8)

A study where people ate 20 pieces of fruit/day for 3-6 months showed no adverse effects for BODY WEIGHT, blood pressure, insulin and lipid levels (https://nutritionfacts.org/video/flashback-friday-how-much-fruit-is-too-much/)

The Blue Zones (5 populations in the world with longest lifespans and importantly healthspans) eat mainly plants, including plenty of fruit. The approach of these communities, given that they work in the real world, would seem to be a pretty good bet (https://www.bluezones.com/recipes/food-guidelines/)

Imperial College found that eating 10 portions of fruits and vegetables a day was associated with: 24 percent reduced risk of heart disease, 33 percent reduced risk of stroke, 28 percent reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, 13 percent reduced risk of total cancer, and a 31 percent reduction in premature deaths - pretty significant numbers (https://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/news/20170223/10-daily-servings-of-fruits-veggies-a-recipe-for-longevity)

Our closest genetic relatives (human and chimpanzee DNA is 98.8% identical) eat plenty of fruit. It would seem odd that what serves the great apes so well is suddenly toxic for us ...

So whole fruit with its protective fibre, antioxidants and phytochemicals would seem to be quite benefical. However, agree that isolated fructose - like processed food generally - is harmful and best avoided

While weight loss is nice, it's good to consider the overall health aspects of any diet. Don't want to be the skinny person in a coffin after all 🙂

(If you have a spare 15 minutes, the video "How long do health influencers live?" is well worth a quarter of an hour. A bit like the Blue Zones above, it shows what actually happens in the real world outside of the online health noise https://youtu.be/dMghM6TxiBk
